Give It To Get It

One of the first leaders who influenced my own life published a tape on leadership which he called “Give It To Get It” It contained many principles on how to live a life of leadership.

Leaders at my church, leaders in the business and entrepreneurial community, but funnily, even some of the more open-minded (and all round successful in terms of wealth, fulfillment and happiness) have two attitudes which I try to adopt.

1. They have, endorse and recommend an “attitude of gratitude”. This means that they attribute, some if not all of their success in life to being grateful for what they have in this present moment. This is a positive and empowering way to live and to express gratitude to your creator, God or the universe if you are not a believer.

2. They have an attitude of giving. It’s hard to believe for a lot of people because it would mean giving up their negativity, letting go of judging themselves and others and being generous in their hearts.

So, what do I do with my own money and what do I intend to do? Do I desire to hoard it or to keep it for myself? Of course not. Why when you have the gift of making money and knowing how to make money would you want to do that?

First of all I support Northern drama group whose focus is to take the message of Jesus in to schools and other places in the form of hilarious and well acted poetic plays. I hope that I am one of their biggest contributors. I feel that is rewarding that I am in some way helping to extend a positive and empowering message of love and salvation to the community in the North of England and the future generation. Not for personal pride reasons, but because I have been to places of terrible despair myself and know how it feels to want so desperately to get out of such a place and how the above message can do just that for the broken hearted or lost person. That is my personal choice to support this particular charity and that is why I do so.

Other than that I regularly give to my church and basically my bottom line is if I have not given away at least 10% of my gross income then I need to give more away in order to keep the cashflow coming in. If I do not do that I find the cashflow stagnates, my emotions take over in trading and things can go sour in a lot of areas. The 10% rule is explored in detail by many authors and it is a belief of more than one religious group too. I highly recommend that no matter where you are you do something extremely generous, something magnanimous as soon as humanly possible, without thought of negative consequences and expect for a great return on your ‘investment’. This kind of “univeral law” seems to defy logic, so drop the logic and be totally giving (preferably of some sum of money), try not to let anyone find out about it and see if it doesn’t change your energy and what you thought was going to happen in the next few days, weeks and months.

You will become addicted to giving and want to become as wealthy as possible so that you can give more away. It always makes me laugh when I think of poor “hard working” people complaining about the wealth of the rich. Many extremely wealthy people worked very hard to get there, but give away in a year far more than the “hard working” poor people who are complaining do in their lifetimes - and that is not just the taxes that tend to rob the productive to help the unproductive (excluding the unwell). Anyway I promised I would not turn this blog in to a rant, so I’ll leave it there.

Wishing you a day filled with peace and possibilities…

Sam
